Grazing Animals Play a Vital Role in Ecosystems
We need grazing animals, not least of all cattle, to replace the extinct megafauna (big animals).
Rotational grazing, sometimes called planned holistic grazing, is a science. It serves to restore carbon to the soil. If done properly, it tends to restore a diverse plant community, reduce erosion (a contributor to atmospheric carbon) and even bring back wildlife habitat, as evidenced by numerous ranchers across the country, including Will Harris in Georgia, whose White Oak Farms have the state’s largest population of bald eagles, according to the Georgia Department of Fish & Wildlife.
Even the Audubon Society acknowledges that ranches typically provide better wildlife habitat than crop lands, which are typically bereft of bird habitat.
