“WE DON’T WORK THE ANIMALS. WE WORK ‘WITH’ THE ANIMALS.” --Daniel Griffith
From an interview with ecologist, poet, philosopher and farmer, Daniel Griffith of central Virginia.
DANIEL GRIFFITH: We “work with” animals, but we don’t “work” the animals. I don't believe in working animals. There's a huge difference.
In my book “Wild Like Flowers”, there's a whole chapter dedicated to the idea that if you want to move cattle, just ask. We have to understand that as we become a part of this system, we are not forcers or pushers or drivers.
We don't drive our cattle.
We move our cows a mile and a half across the Wildlands. We just go for a run, and they follow. It's glorious, and it’s gorgeous. People literally come out and pay just to watch them run. It's the craziest thing. It's peaceful, and that's what we wanted to do.
